FAQ

HOW DO I KNOW IF I MAY BE ELIGIBLE?

  • Eligibility is determined by the City Solicitor
  • Your traffic case and driving history are reviewed to determine if you are a good candidate for the program
  • You have not participated in the PTI-T program within the past twelve (12) months

Your charge is NOT:

  • DUI
  • Hit & Run
  • Aggressive Driving
  • Drag Racing
  • Fleeing and Attempting to Elude
  • Suspended License
  • No License
  • 30-day Residency Requirement (license)
  • Speeding of 34 mph or more over the speed limit

This list is not intended to be exhaustive. Your eligibility and acceptance into the program is at the discretion of the City Solicitor or designee, as extenuating circumstances may be considered.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE ADVANTAGES OF MY PARTICIPATION?

  • Your charge(s) will be DISMISSED.
  • You will have NO CONVICTION.
  • You will NOT pay a fine along with surcharges.
  • You will ONLY pay a participation fee.

If you are unable to pay your participation fee or meet any program requirements today, you will be given time to SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE the program requirements including the payment of your fee.

If you timely and successfully complete the program requirements, your case will be dismissed. As such, this matter will not be reported to the Department of Driver Services and your driving record will not be subject to points.

HOW MUCH IS THE PARTICIPATION FEE?

Your charge(s) will be individually evaluated, and the participation fee assessed is based on YOUR offense(s) and prior driving record, not to exceed $1000 (or statutory limitations).

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO COMPLETE THE PROGRAM?

In most cases, the PTI-T requirements can be completed on the same day you appear or are accepted into the program and comply to your terms, then your charge(s) will be dismissed on that day. However, if needed, upon acceptance into the program, you will be given time to comply, which includes paying your participation fee; then, your case will be dismissed.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MY ENTERING A PLEA OF “NOT GUILTY”, “GUILTY”, OR “NOLO” BEFORE THE JUDGE IN THE COURTROOM AND MY CHOOSING TO PARTICIPATE IN PTI-T?

Participation in PTI-T does NOT require you to enter a plea, but rather, is an alternative to traditional sentencing. Therefore, there is no associated court fine or added court costs imposed and the charge will not be reported to the Department of Driver’s Services. However, you will be charged a participation fee.
